Healthy Fall Treats for Your Dog

Autumn is here! The leaves are changing, the air is crisp, and it’s the season of pumpkin-spiced everything. But while we humans indulge in our favorite fall treats, why not whip up some healthy, seasonal snacks for our furry friends too? Here’s a list of healthy fall treats to spoil your dog while keeping them nourished.

  1. Pumpkin Puree Dog Treats Ingredients:

    • 2 ½ cups of whole wheat flour

    • 2 eggs

    • ½ cup of canned pumpkin (make sure it’s pure pumpkin, not pie filling)

    • 2 tablespoons of dry milk

    • 2 tablespoons of powdered brewer's yeast

    • A pinch of salt

Method: Combine all the ingredients to form a stiff dough. Roll out and cut with a dog-bone shaped cookie cutter. Bake at 375°F (190°C) for about 20 minutes.

  1. Apple and Oat Dog Biscuits Ingredients:

    • 1 cup of oat flour

    • 1 cup of whole wheat flour

    • 1 egg

    • 1 cup of apple (finely chopped, make sure to remove seeds)

    • ½ cup of water

Method: Mix everything into a dough, roll out, cut into shapes, and bake at 350°F (175°C) for 30 minutes or until crispy.

  1. Sweet Potato Dog Chews Simply slice sweet potatoes into thin strips and dehydrate them. If you don't have a dehydrator, you can bake them at 250°F (120°C) for about 3 hours. They should be dry and tough, not soft.

  2. Carrot and Ginger Dog Cookies Ingredients:

    • 2 cups of whole wheat flour

    • 1 cup of rolled oats

    • 1 tablespoon of dry milk

    • 1 tablespoon of cornmeal

    • ½ cup of carrot (grated)

    • 1 teaspoon of ginger (grounded)

    • 1 cup of water

Method: Combine all ingredients and mix to form a stiff dough. Roll out, cut into desired shapes, and bake at 300°F (150°C) for 45 minutes.

  1. Peanut Butter and Cranberry Dog Balls Ingredients:

    • 2 cups of rolled oats

    • 1 cup of dried cranberries

    • 1 cup of peanut butter (ensure it doesn't contain xylitol, as it's toxic to dogs)

    • 1 tablespoon of honey

Method: Combine all the ingredients, form into balls, and refrigerate until firm.

Note: Always remember that even healthy treats should be given in moderation. It's also essential to be aware of any allergies or sensitivities your dog may have. Always consult your vet if you're introducing new ingredients to your dog's diet.

As the autumn leaves fall, let your canine companion share in the delicious, cozy flavors of the season. These treats will not only bring joy to your dog but also ensure they're getting a nutritious snack. Happy Fall and happy treat-making! 🍂🐾
